CISCO & THE SUN

CISCO & THE SUN

Happy New Year to all you glorious readers!

I’m not sure about the rest of you but I can honestly say that by the end of 2018 I was on a mission to make some serious changes in my life. I may be late to the party but, after years of being absolutely content with discovering new and wonderful things on my smartphone, it all started feeling like a mind-blowingly enormous waste of time! I mean no one loves an angry bird or vine compilation more than me, but I decided that 2019 was going to be the year I reinstate some balance. Most notably refocusing on the things in my life which leave me feeling happy, fulfilled and motivated!

With all this in mind, I wanted to let you all know that I will be making a conscious effort to try and produce edits which showcase people who leave us feeling good and empowered to live our lives authentically.

I can’t think of a better story to follow on from my mission statement than this one! Model, hotelier and homeware designer, Cisco Gorrow effortlessly combines her old school cool aesthetic with a new approach to interiors, lifestyle and having it all her way. The end result is a laid-back tropically chic aesthetic and a life that shines bright with authenticity and effortless romance.

I was so lucky to be able to catch up with Cisco to find out more about her approach to life in Bali, the love story with her husband and her new role as a mum to beautiful little Cisco Romeo. Tune in this week for our full interview, and in the meantime, enjoy you beautiful beasts.

Q & A

TXC

Tell us a little about you and your family, and how you came to live in Bali?

CISCO

I am the youngest of 4 daughters born and raised in Munich. I started modelling when I was 16 and travelling became very regular. I met George on a shoot for Ksubi. We met up in Bali as we were both there for a photoshoot. We got engaged on that trip and married a year later on the island. The connection to Bali is very strong, plus we love surfing. My husband used to do a lot of surf photoshoots for his surf label, so we were travelling to Bali on a regular basis.

TXC

What lessons have living in Bali taught you?

CISCO

To be in the moment. Balinese people don’t get stressed, they take things with a grain of salt, even if they are stuck in the worst traffic, there is no place they’d rather be and they make it fun. That’s very inspirational to me.

TXC

Tell us the story behind your hotel, The Slow.

CISCO

We are actually in the building process of our new home.

My dad is an architect in Munich and it was always my dream to do a project with him. The Slow was meant to be our ultimate island home, but when we came back from NYC and realised that we were smack bang in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. So we decided to turn our island home into an island stay. That was the birth of The Slow.

TXC

What is your biggest vice?

CISCO

A cold San Miguel after a nice surf.

TXC

Would you say you are a control freak?

CISCO

I would reword that and say I’m German, and I like to be organised. hahaha

TXC

What makes you lose control?

CISCO

A good kundalini yoga class and looking into the bright blue eyes of my baby boy.

TXC

And are you ok with losing control?

CISCO

Hell yeah!

TXC

What do you value?

CISCO

Every moment, every day, and Harley Davidson motorcycles.

TXC

What are your feelings about sharing your life on social media?

CISCO

I think everything in moderation. Maybe I’m a little old fashioned but I think there is a fine line for using Instagram for the tool it is and getting too much into it. I am not a fan of the virtual reality side.

TXC

What 5 key pieces make up your personal style?

CISCO

I love a pair of linen pants by All That Remains is Love, Harley vintage tee from my husband, gold chains by Maxi Mova Jewellery, an old Panama hat that I have had for years and a good pair of swimmers.

TXC

What is beautiful to you?

CISCO

My sleeping child... he is so angelic!

TXC

What was the most surprising thing about becoming a mother?

CISCO

The infinite energy and the depths of love.

TXC

What is the best advice you can give to anyone about to become a mum for the first time?

CISCO

Enjoy every single moment, they pass so quickly and new great ones come. It has been the most amazing journey for me. I love every single bit of it.

TXC

Do you have any advice for keeping the romance in your relationship?

CISCO

Marry the right man and pay attention to the little things.

TXC

What music on your Spotify right now?

CISCO

Reverberation Radio every single day.

TXC

3 beauty products you can't live without?

CISCO

Equiptian magic, Ayu Vedic inspired perfume oils, Tom Ford everything.

TXC

Style icons who inspire you.

CISCO

Erin Wasson and Patti Smith.

TXC

What are your favourite accounts on Instagram right now?

CISCO

fleurette, the account of my beautiful friend Christelle Scifo. She is a stylist and florist. I love her elegant eye. You can see some of the amazing work that she has done for my ceramic label Cisco and the Sun Home. I also love China Heights Gallery account, they are our partners in the slow’s room 13 gallery and curate all of our exhibitions. They showcase a lot of cool and emerging Australian artists.
